Meta announced on Friday that it will be reducing the prices of its Quest 2 and high-end Quest Pro headsets. The 256GB Meta Quest 2 will now be priced at $429.99, down from $499.99, while the Quest Pro will see a significant drop from $1,499.99 to $999.99.

The company’s Reality Labs segment, responsible for developing the metaverse technologies, experienced a loss of $13.7 billion in 2022. However, it generated $727 million in revenue in the fourth quarter and $2.16 billion for the entire year, although this was a decrease compared to $2.27 billion in 2021.

The Quest Pro headset, which features outward-facing cameras that capture the user’s physical environment and allow for the overlay of virtual elements, was initially launched in October. However, due to its high price, it was not affordable for most consumers and lacked a clear professional use case. The price reduction aims to make it more appealing to a broader audience.

Meta stated that their objective has always been to create affordable hardware that can be accessible to as many people as possible to fully experience VR. The new pricing will be implemented on March 5 for the Meta Quest 2, both in the United States and Canada. For the rest of the world, the price reduction will take effect on March 15.
