Al Gore, 75, is stepping down from Apple’s Board of Directors due to the company’s policy of not allowing directors to stand for reelection after reaching the age of 75. James Bell, a former CFO of The Boeing Company, is also retiring for the same reason. Apple has nominated Wanda Austin, the former president and CEO of The Aerospace Corporation, as a new board member. Austin is an advocate for STEM education and currently serves on the boards of Chevron and Amgen Inc. Apple CEO Tim Cook praised Gore’s contributions to the company’s work, including his support for user privacy and knowledge of environmental issues. In 2011, Gore accidentally revealed the upcoming release of the iPhone 5 before Apple officially announced it.
